Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reassured Mauritius of India\u2019s unwavering support in its journey towards prosperity, saying, \u201cWhen Mauritius prospers, India is the first to celebrate\u201d.<\/p>\n

Addressing members of the Indian community at an event in Port Louis on March 11, 2025, Prime Minister Modi highlighted India\u2019s rising global stature as the world\u2019s fifth-largest economy. He expressed confidence that Mauritius would greatly benefit from India\u2019s economic growth and technological advancements.<\/p>\n

Mauritius Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam and his wife Mrs. Veena Ramgoolam, who were present at the event, were handed over Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards by Prime Minister Modi.<\/p>\n

India-Mauritius Diplomatic and Economic Ties
<\/b> PM Modi emphasized India\u2019s commitment to Mauritius through economic cooperation, development projects, and diplomatic collaborations. He highlighted the strategic role Mauritius plays in India\u2019s SAGAR vision (Security and Growth for All in the Region), reaffirming that Mauritius remains at the heart of India’s maritime security and trade initiatives.<\/p>\n

Over the past decade, India has been a key partner in Mauritius\u2019s infrastructural development. From modern metro systems and electric buses to solar energy projects, the two nations have collaborated on a range of transformative initiatives. The signing of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) in 2021 has further strengthened trade ties, offering Mauritius preferential access to Indian markets.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s Support for Mauritius on the Global Stage
<\/b> PM Modi emphasized India\u2019s steadfast support for Mauritius in times of crisis and its role as a first responder in disaster relief. During the COVID-19 pandemic, India was the first country to supply Mauritius with vaccines and medical aid. Beyond bilateral relations, India has also championed Mauritius\u2019s global interests, inviting it as a special guest at the G20 summit and advocating for the African Union\u2019s inclusion in the G20.<\/p>\n

As both nations continue their collaboration in renewable energy, the International Solar Alliance, and the Global Biofuels Alliance, PM Modi reaffirmed India\u2019s commitment to helping Mauritius combat climate change and transition towards a sustainable future.<\/p>\n
