The relief material was formally handed over to Yangon\u2019s Chief Minister U Soe Thein by India\u2019s Ambassador Abhay Thakur.<\/p>\n<p> Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meanwhile, spoke with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and conveyed his condolences at the loss of lives.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cSpoke with Senior General H.E. Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar. Conveyed our deep condolences at the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake. As a close friend and neighbour, India stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar in this difficult hour. Disaster relief material, humanitarian assistance, search &#038; rescue teams are being expeditiously dispatched to the affected areas as part of #OperationBrahma,\u201d Prime Minister Modi wrote on social media platform X.<\/p>\n<p> Shortly after the earthquake struck, Prime Minister Modi had offered all possible assistance and asked the authorities to be on standby.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cConcerned by the situation in the wake of the Earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Praying for the safety and wellbeing of everyone. India stands ready to offer all possible assistance. In this regard, asked our authorities to be on standby. Also asked the MEA to remain in touch with the Governments of Myanmar and Thailand,\u201d he said on X on Friday.<\/p>\n<p> A powerful earthquake rocked Myanmar and neighbouring Thailand on Friday (March 28, 2025), leaving a trail of destruction. According to media reports, over 1,000 people are believed to have died in Myanmar while thousands have been injured. The toll is likely to rise as search and rescue operations at sites of collapsed buildings continue for the second day.<\/p>\n<p> Myanmar\u2019s second largest city Mandalay was the epicentre of the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake.
