Manchester United were dumped out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday by fourth-tier Grimsby and are yet to win this season.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ruben Amorim has admitted he has thought about quitting Manchester United as the under-fire manager revealed he sometimes \u201chates\u201d his players.<\/p>\n

Amorim prompted speculation that he is considering leaving Old Trafford with a cryptic interview after United\u2019s humiliating League Cup second-round defeat against fourth-tier Grimsby<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

United\u2019s penalty shootout loss to the Mariners prompted Amorim to say \u201csomething has to change\u201d following their slow start to the season.<\/p>\n

Amorim\u2019s side were beaten by Arsenal and drew with Fulham in their opening two Premier League games before the Grimsby debacle.<\/p>\n

The 40-year-old former Sporting Lisbon coach has only been in charge of United since November, but he is already in deep trouble after the club\u2019s worst top-flight finish since 1973-74 last term.<\/p>\n

Another bad result against promoted Burnley on Saturday would pile further pressure on Amorim, who reportedly retains the support of United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe at present.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time in the future we have one defeat like that I\u2019m going to be like that, I\u2019m going to say sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I love my players, sometimes I defend my players and sometimes I think I cannot,\u201d Amorim told reporters on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my way of doing things and I\u2019m going to be like that. I felt that in that moment, I was so frustrated, I was so annoyed.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes I love to be with my players, sometimes I don\u2019t want to be with them. I need to improve on that, it\u2019s going to be hard but now I\u2019m focused on the next game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amorim said he felt like walking away from United after the Grimsby embarrassment, but he is now focused on dragging his team out of their latest slump.<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt that after the game. I don\u2019t feel that now. So it\u2019s a little bit like that. I think that is the hardest part of the defeat,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes it\u2019s not the result, it\u2019s the way we lost that game or draw that game. That is the thing that is hard to accept.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause we can do better. In this moment, we cover positions, fight for the ball, running, all these small things, sometimes we drop a little bit the level.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe good thing is that we now have the next game to put that level up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know, again, that you have a lot of experienced people talking about the way I should perform with the media, to be more constant, to be more calm. I\u2019m not going to be like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

United\u2019s loss to Grimsby was a huge blow to Amorim after a \u00a3200 million ($269m) spending spree on forwards Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha during the close-season.<\/p>\n

Amorim\u2019s overhaul came after United were beaten by fellow strugglers Tottenham in the Europa League final \u2013 a dismal defeat that cost them a place in the Champions League.<\/p>\n

The Portuguese coach, highly rated prior to his move to England, conceded he was surprised by United\u2019s failure to improve on last season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI felt we had a very good preseason, we were playing better, we were being consistent in the way we played,\u201d Amorim said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe played badly for 30 minutes against Fulham and that kind of performance [against Grimsby], I was really disappointed with everything, but now it\u2019s a new game and we focus on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
