This behaviour is illegal under EU antitrust rules,\u201d Ribera said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators had been probing Google over adtech since 2021 and in 2023 recommended the company sell part of its ad services to ensure fair competition.<\/p>\n<p>Google, a subsidiary of US tech giant Alphabet,\u00a0criticised the EU decision and said it would challenge it in court.<\/p>\n<p>Lee-Anne Mulholland, the firm\u2019s global head of regulatory affairs, said it required \u201cchanges that will hurt thousands of European businesses by making it harder for them to make money\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing anticompetitive in providing services for ad buyers and sellers, and there are more alternatives to our services than ever before,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Ribera said Google had to come forward with a \u201cserious remedy to address its conflicts of interest\u201d, warning that failure to do so would invite \u201cstrong remedies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The company has 60 days to inform the Commission how it plans to comply with this order.<\/p>\n<p>The fine was the third imposed on the giant in a week.
