Half an hour or an hour is not enough time for people to escape from these buildings,\u201d Al Jazeera\u2019s Hani Mahmoud said, reporting from Gaza City.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli military said in a statement, without offering evidence, that the buildings struck were used by Hamas to gather intelligence to monitor the locations of the Israeli army. It also said that armed Palestinian groups planted \u201cnumerous explosive devices\u201d and dug a tunnel in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Gaza\u2019s Government Media Office rejected the claims and called them \u201cpart of a systematic policy of deception used by the occupation to justify the targeting of civilians and infrastructure\u201d and forcibly displace Palestinians from their homes. It said that Israel has destroyed 90 percent of Gaza\u2019s infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>The buildings designated for targeting were near the 12-storey <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/9\/5\/israel-bombs-high-rise-towers-as-brutal-gaza-city-assault-intensifies\">Mushtaha Tower<\/a>, which on Friday was bombed and razed to the ground, as Israel moves to seize Gaza City despite international criticism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrikes like these add to an ongoing, incessant, continuous campaign\u2026 to raze to the ground entire neighbourhoods, buildings, and wipe out entire families and individual lives,\u201d UNWRA spokesperson Tamara Alrifai told Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"child-deaths-a-horrific-new-low\">Child deaths: a \u2018horrific new low\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>As panic-stricken residents fled Gaza City, UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram said that Israel\u2019s campaign to forcibly displace Palestinians from Gaza City was an \u201cenormous threat\u201d for almost one million people, pointing out that half of the population are children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to remember that every second person in Gaza is a child, and life is becoming almost impossible for them,\u201d Ingram told Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>Save the Children said that at least one Palestinian child has been killed every hour on average by Israeli forces in Gaza over nearly 23 months of war, describing the statistic as a \u201chorrific new low\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>At least 20,000 children have been killed since October 2023, according to Gaza government figures.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has killed at least 67 people since Saturday morning, according to medical sources who spoke to Al Jazeera. The majority \u2013 45 people \u2013 were killed in Gaza City.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the enclave\u2019s Ministry of Health reported that at least six more Palestinians died as a result of the Israeli-induced famine over the past day, bringing the total number of deaths from starvation during nearly two years of war to 382, including 135 children.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has killed at least 64,368 Palestinians and wounded 162,367 more since the start of its war on Gaza in the aftermath of the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"israel-declares-new-humanitarian-zone-bombs-the-area\">Israel declares new \u2018humanitarian zone\u2019, bombs the area<\/h2>\n<p>Sources at Nasser Hospital, in southern Gaza\u2019s Khan Younis, told Al Jazeera that at least two Palestinians were killed and many wounded in an Israeli air strike on a tent housing displaced people in the al-Mawasi area.<\/p>\n<p>While the Israeli army had designated this area a \u201chumanitarian\u201d or \u201csafe\u201d zone early in the war, it has been repeatedly bombed, leading to the deaths of hundreds of displaced civilians.<\/p>\n<p>Hours before the latest bombings, the Israeli army had announced the establishment of another similar zone in al-Mawasi, which runs along Gaza\u2019s Mediterranean coast. It claimed the area will have infrastructure such as field hospitals, water lines, desalination facilities and food supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Gaza\u2019s Ministry of Interior urged Palestinians not to be misled by Israeli declarations of \u201csafe zones\u201d in the south, warning that heading to these areas that had been repeatedly bombed would aid Israel in imposing \u201cforced displacement\u201d from the north.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3928990\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3928990\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/AA-20250906-39033744-39033731-ISRAELI_ATTACKS_ON_GAZA_CONTINUE-1757152279.jpg?w=770&#038;resize=770%2C513&#038;quality=80\" alt=\"Gaza\" fetchpriority=\"low\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3928990\">Palestinians mourn the loss of loved ones killed by the Israeli military on September 6, 2025 [Hamza ZH Qraiqea\/Anadolu]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Reporting from central Gaza\u2019s Deir el-Balah, Al Jazeera\u2019s Hind Khoudary said that Palestinians do not trust the so-called humanitarian area, as Israel has attacked tents in similar zones many times before, and nowhere is safe.<\/p>\n<p>But people in Gaza City have few options: If they stay, they risk being killed, and if they leave, they face dangers on the road and may have to spend considerable money to move their belongings south.<\/p>\n<p>Those who have returned to their homes in Gaza City\u2019s Zeitoun neighbourhood, where Israeli forces withdrew recently after weeks of ground assaults, have found everything they owned destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we have built in 50 years was flattened in five days,\u201d resident Aqeel Kishko told Al Jazeera. \u201cNothing remains standing \u2013 buildings, roads and infrastructure. We are walking not only on ruins but also on dead bodies of our loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nohaa Tafish said it would be impossible for Gaza\u2019s largest urban centre to be revived.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat would people return to?
