DO NOT OBSCURE LOGO.\"><\/p><figcaption>A firefighter works at the site of a blaze where a critical infrastructure facility was hit by Russian drones, near the town of Nizhyn, Chernihiv region, Ukraine, on Monday [Handout\/Press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Chernihiv region via Reuters]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p id=\"here-is-how-things-stand-on-saturday-september-13\">Here is how things stand on Tuesday, September 16 :<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Fighting<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A Ukrainian drone attack killed two women in the village of Golovchino in Russia\u2019s Belgorod region, Russia\u2019s state TASS news agency reports.<\/li>\n<li>A man who was seriously injured in a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia\u2019s Belgorod region in April has died in hospital, TASS reports.<\/li>\n<li>TASS also reported that Russian forces shot down 82 Ukrainian drones in a 24-hour period.<\/li>\n<li>Russian forces have captured the village of Olhivske in Ukraine\u2019s Zaporizhia region, Russia\u2019s Ministry of Defence said on Monday.<\/li>\n<li>Ukraine\u2019s Air Force said it shot down 59 of 84 Russian drones fired overnight, while Russia also fired three guided missiles.<\/li>\n<li>The commander of Ukraine\u2019s drone forces, Robert Brovdi, reported that a Starlink outage affected the entire front line for about 30 minutes, starting at 7:28am local time (04:28 GMT). Ukraine\u2019s forces are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/8\/25\/polish-veto-risks-ukraines-crucial-starlink-access-amid-refugee-aid-row\">heavily reliant<\/a> on SpaceX\u2019s Starlink terminals for battlefield communications and some drone operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"regional-security\">Regional security<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Poland\u2019s State Protection Service \u201cneutralised a drone operating over government buildings\u201d and the Presidential Palace. Police are investigating the drone incident, and two citizens of Belarus have been detained, Tusk added in a post on X.<\/li>\n<li>Announcing that the United Kingdom will deploy fighter jets to Poland, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, \u201cRussia\u2019s reckless behaviour is a direct threat to European security and a violation of international law, which is why the UK will support NATO\u2019s efforts to bolster its eastern flank.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The UK Foreign Office on Monday called the recent Russian drone incursions into Polish and Romanian airspace \u201cutterly unacceptable\u201d, and summoned Russian Ambassador Andrei Kelin.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cRussia should understand that its continued aggression only strengthens the unity between NATO allies,\u201d the Foreign Office said in a statement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3951949\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3951949\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/afp_68c89c21a8b9-1757977633.jpg?w=770&#038;resize=770%2C513&#038;quality=80\" alt=\"Drones fly with flags of Russia and Belarus during the \"Zapad-2025\" (West-2025) joint Russian-Belarusian military drills at a training ground near the town of Borisov, east of the capital Minsk, on September 15, 2025. The US did not send observers.<\/li>\n<li>Danish Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen said in a statement: \u201cThe current security situation requires us to significantly strengthen the armed forces\u2019 presence in the Arctic and North Atlantic.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"tariffs-and-sanctions\">Tariffs and sanctions<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday that the administration of President Donald Trump would not impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods to halt China\u2019s purchases of Russian oil unless European countries hit China and India with steep duties of their own.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cWe expect the Europeans to do their share now, and we are not moving forward without the Europeans,\u201d Bessent said.<\/li>\n<li>Russia warned on Monday that it would go after any European state that sought to take its assets after reports that the European Union was looking for new ways to leverage hundreds of billions of dollars of frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/main><\/p>\n<hr>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are the key events on day 1,300 of Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine.
