Russia\u2019s Far East in what the US Geological Survey has called an \u201caftershock\u201d from a massive earlier quake in July.<\/p>\n<p>The quake early on Friday triggered a series of tsunami followed by a series of aftershocks, measuring up to a magnitude of 5.8.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1456889\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1456889\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/1000x562_WEB_MAP_RUSSIA_KAMCHATKA.jpg?w=770&#038;resize=770%2C433&#038;quality=80\" alt=\"[Al Jazeera]\" fetchpriority=\"low\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1456889\">[Al Jazeera]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Russia\u2019s Emergencies Ministry said the quake had a magnitude of 7.2.<\/p>\n<p>Kamchatka regional Governor Vladimir Solodov said all emergency services had been placed in a state of high readiness, but no damage had been reported so far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis morning is once again testing the resilience of Kamchatka residents,\u201d Solodov wrote on the Telegram messaging app. \u201cImmediately after the earthquake, we began a rapid inspection of social institutions and residential buildings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A tsunami warning was issued for the eastern shore of the peninsula, jutting far out into the Bering Sea and Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>Other officials reported tsunami waves of 30 to 62 centimetres (1 to 2 feet) at various points along the coast of the peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>A tsunami warning was also issued for parts of the Kuril island chain, north of Japan, the Emergencies Ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>Videos uploaded to social media captured the moment of the quake, showing people\u2019s light fittings shaking, furniture rattling, and cars parked in the street rocking while their security alarms sounded.<\/p>\n<p>The US National Weather Service and Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami advisory for parts of Alaska following the quake, but the warning was later lifted.<\/p>\n<p>Kamchatka is located in a highly seismic area, and at least two quakes with a magnitude greater than 7.0 have occurred in the past week.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/7\/20\/tsunami-alert-after-powerful-earthquakes-hit-russias-pacific-coast-2\">earthquake in July reached a magnitude of 8.8<\/a> and triggered a tsunami that flooded a seaport town and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/7\/30\/tsunami-alerts-issued-after-magnitude-earthquake-8-0-off-russia\">activated warnings across
