EPA\/WOJTEK JARGILO POLAND OUT\"><\/p><figcaption>Police officers and soldiers work at the site of suspected remnants of a\u00a0Polish missile found in the village of Choiny, in eastern Poland, on Friday [Wojtek Jargilo\/EPA]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>Here is how things stand on Saturday, September 20:<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"regional-security\">Regional security<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Estonian officials say three Russian MiG-31 fighters <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/9\/19\/estonia-says-russian-fighter-jets-entered-airspace-in-brazen-intrusion\">entered Estonia\u2019s airspace<\/a> \u201cover the Gulf of Finland\u201d for a total of 12 minutes on Friday and called for NATO talks over the \u201cunprecedented and brazen intrusion\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Moscow denied violating Estonia\u2019s airspace, with the Russian defence ministry claiming its jets flew over neutral waters of the Baltic Sea as they travelled from northwestern Russia to the Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad.<\/li>\n<li>The incident came a week after more than 20 Russian drones entered Polish airspace and drew immediate condemnation from NATO and European countries.<\/li>\n<li>NATO spokesperson Allison Hart accused Moscow of \u201creckless behaviour\u201d and said the alliance had scrambled aircraft to intercept the Russian jets.<\/li>\n<li>British Defence Secretary John Healey said that Russia\u2019s \u201creckless and dangerous activity\u201d was \u201cthe third violation of NATO airspace in recent days\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>France\u2019s Ministry of the Armed Forces also responded, saying in a statement: \u201cThis incursion into Estonia is unprecedented for more than 20 years\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>United States President Donald Trump said he had not been briefed on the incident but said, \u201cI don\u2019t like when that happens.\u201d It \u201ccould be big trouble\u201d, he added.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"fighting\">Fighting<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Ukrainian forces launched a wave of drone attacks on Russia, killing a 55-year-old man in the village of Amon, in the Kursk region, and a truck driver in the village of Otradovka in the Belgorod region, according to an official and the Russian state-run TASS news agency.<\/li>\n<li>Ukrainian forces attacked the Belgorod region with more than 100 drones and more than 15 munitions in a 24-hour period, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on Telegram.<\/li>\n<li>In Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said two people were wounded in a Russian attack on the Dnipro region.<\/li>\n<li>Zelenskyy also said on X that Russian forces launched close to 90 drones at Ukraine overnight, targeting Ukraine\u2019s Donetsk, Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions, alongside Dnipro. \u201cOur warriors managed to neutralise most of them,\u201d Zelenskyy said.<\/li>\n<li>Separately, a crew of journalists from Ukraine\u2019s Channel Five and their driver were injured by a landmine near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, Ukrinform reported on Saturday.<\/li>\n<li>Russian forces seized the village of Muravka in Ukraine\u2019s Donetsk region and Novoivanovka in the Zaporizhia region, according to TASS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"politics-and-diplomacy\">Politics and diplomacy<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/9\/19\/eu-chief-seeks-sanctions-on-russian-lng-to-pressure-moscow-over-ukraine-war\">19th package of sanctions<\/a> on Russia, urging members of the European Union to adopt new curbs on Russia\u2019s exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG).<\/li>\n<li>Zelenskyy welcomed the measures, saying they \u201cmarked an important step that will increase pressure on the Russian war machine and produce a tangible effect\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Trump said he and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/economy\/2025\/9\/19\/trump-xi-call-thaws-us-china-relations-but-no-clear-tiktok-deal-yet\">a call<\/a> on Friday. \u201cI believe he would like to see it ended,\u201d Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of Xi\u2019s view of the war, after the call.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/main><\/p>\n<hr>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are the key events on day 1,304 of Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine.
