Ukrainian forces also attacked the Novokuibyshevsk Oil Refinery in Samara, where the General Staff said \u201cthe results of the damage are being clarified\u201d, in a statement shared on Facebook.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"regional-security\">Regional security<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Germany\u2019s air force said it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/9\/21\/germany-scrambles-jets-after-russia-military-aircraft-flies-over-baltic-sea\">scrambled two Eurofighter jets<\/a> to track a Russian reconnaissance aircraft, which Germany said entered neutral airspace over the Baltic Sea.<\/li>\n<li>The incident comes after Estonia, Poland and Romania <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/9\/21\/germany-scrambles-jets-after-russia-military-aircraft-flies-over-baltic-sea\">reported Russian fighter jets<\/a> or drones entering their airspace in recent weeks.<\/li>\n<li>Estonia\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday that the United Nations Security Council will convene an emergency session on Monday \u201cin response to Russia\u2019s brazen violation of Estonian airspace\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Two officials told Reuters that a planned NATO North Atlantic Council meeting to respond to the violation of Estonia\u2019s airspace would take place on Tuesday.<\/li>\n<li><span>Asked on Sunday whether he would help defend European Union countries if Russia intensified hostilities, United States President Donald Trump told reporters: \u201cYeah, I would. I would.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"politics-and-diplomacy\">Politics and diplomacy<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that his country is planning to meet with Trump this week, amid a \u201cvery intense week\u201d of diplomacy during the UN General Assembly in New York, in a post on X.<\/li>\n<li>French President Emmanuel Macron said that European countries were complying with international law by using the proceeds from frozen Russian assets in European banks. But he added that seizing the assets from Russia\u2019s central bank could cause \u201ctotal chaos\u201d, in response to a question from CBS news about recent comments made by Trump.<\/li>\n<li>Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova responded, saying: \u201cIf Moscow\u2019s frozen assets are confiscated in Europe, there won\u2019t be chaos, but rather very harsh countermeasures from Russia.
