{"id":4861,"date":"2026-01-09T10:36:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T10:36:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pronews.in\/index.php\/2026\/01\/09\/yemens-separatist-southern-transitional-council-announces-its-dissolution\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T10:36:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T10:36:06","slug":"yemens-separatist-southern-transitional-council-announces-its-dissolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pronews.in\/index.php\/2026\/01\/09\/yemens-separatist-southern-transitional-council-announces-its-dissolution\/","title":{"rendered":"Yemen\u2019s separatist Southern Transitional Council announces its dissolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><span>DEVELOPING STORY, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>The STC, which Saudi Arabia says is backed by the UAE, launched an offensive against Yemeni gov\u2019t troops in December.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>Yemen\u2019s main southern separatists \u200dhave decided to disband following talks in Saudi Arabia, the secretary-general of the organisation has announced.<\/p>\n<p>The Southern Transitional Council (STC) Secretary-General Abdulrahman Al-Subaihi said in a broadcast on Yemeni television on Friday that the dissolution of the group was taken to preserve peace and security in the south and in neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n<p>He praised \u201cthe measures taken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the solutions it has provided that meet the needs of the people of the South\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, there was no immediate \u200dcomment from those members of the separatist group who are not taking part in the \u200dtalks in Riyadh.<\/p>\n<p>The STC had said it had lost contact with all members \u200dof the delegation in Riyadh, indicating a split was emerging within the group.<\/p>\n<p>A feud between Saudi Arabia and the UAE that came to light after the STC, which Riyadh says is backed by Abu Dhabi, launched an offensive against Saudi-backed Yemeni government troops in December.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the Saudi Arabia-led coalition in Yemen said the STC leader Aidarous \u200cal-Zubaidi had fled to the UAE via Somaliland after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/1\/7\/saudi-led-coalition-strikes-yemen-says-stc-leader-al-zubaidi-has-fled\">skipping<\/a> the talks in Riyadh, accusing the UAE of smuggling him out of the country.<\/p>\n<p><i>More to come\u2026<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DEVELOPING STORY, The STC, which Saudi Arabia says is backed by the UAE, launched an offensive against Yemeni gov\u2019t troops in December.
