The Edhi Foundation, a medical complex, later confirmed a sixth death in a statement.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1432\" data-end=\"1668\">Rescue officials said the mall contains roughly 1,200 shops, raising fears that people could still be trapped inside. The Edhi Foundation said part of the building collapsed due to the intensity of the fire, complicating rescue efforts.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1670\" data-end=\"2042\">Garden subdivision police officer Mohsin Raza said initial findings suggested the fire started due to a short circuit in one of the shops before rapidly spreading throughout the complex.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1670\" data-end=\"2042\">He said the exact cause must be determined through a detailed investigation and warned that the structure needs to be secured to prevent further damage.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2044\" data-end=\"2212\">President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed condolences over the loss of life.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2214\" data-end=\"2640\" data-is-last-node data-is-only-node>In a statement carried by PTV, Sharif ordered authorities to take \u201call possible measures\u201d to protect lives and property, provide assistance to affected traders and ensure medical care for the injured.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2214\" data-end=\"2640\" data-is-last-node data-is-only-node>Zardari urged the government of Sindh province, whose capital is Karachi, to offer \u201cimmediate and every possible assistance\u201d and said: \u201cNo stone should be left unturned in providing the best medical facilities to the injured.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4248539\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4248539\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/000_93434GA-1768726690.jpg?w=770&#038;resize=770%2C513&#038;quality=80\" alt=\"Firefighters douse a fire that broke out at a shopping mall in Karachi on January 18, 2026.
