The threat of sanctions against any country that delivers fuel to the island has worsened a years-long economic crisis and stoked humanitarian fallout.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio said that Cuba\u2019s decision announced this week to let citizens living in exile invest and own businesses in the country did not go far enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat they announced yesterday is not dramatic enough. It\u2019s not going to fix it. So they\u2019ve got some big decisions to make,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio further said Cuba has survived \u201con subsidies\u201d since the Cuban revolution in the 1950s, adding \u201cthe people in charge, they don\u2019t know how to fix it\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo they have to get new people in charge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"trump-floats-imminent-action\">Trump floats imminent action<\/h2>\n<p>For his part, Trump, who on Monday said he could \u201ctake\u201d Cuba, and has previously floated a \u201cfriendly takeover\u201d of the country, said on Tuesday that a new action was imminent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll be doing something with Cuba very soon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the US and Cuba announced they had entered into talks to end the pressure campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Several US media outlets have since reported that the Trump administration is calling for President Miguel Diaz-Canel to step down, although no details have emerged about his possible replacement.<\/p>\n<p>The US has maintained a decades-long trade embargo against Cuba and its communist government.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, a national power outage further underscored the dire situation on the island, where periodic blackouts have long been common.<\/p>\n<p>By early Tuesday, power had been restored to two-thirds of the country, including to 45 percent of the capital Havana, which is home to 1.7 million people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Washington continues to block fuel to island nation, as Trump floats \u2018doing something with Cuba very soon\u2019.
