hubs<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/3\/18\/iran-threatens-to-strike-gulf-energy-facilities-after-south-pars-attack\">energy facilities<\/a>, unleashing chaos across the region and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/economy\/2026\/3\/19\/asias-stock-markets-dive-after-attacks-on-energy-facilities-in-qatar-iran\">roiling global energy markets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia, which holds the world\u2019s second-largest proven crude oil reserves, has come under attack by hundreds of Iranian missiles and drones since the start of the war, the vast majority of which have been intercepted, authorities have said.<\/p>\n<p>Among the attacks, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/3\/4\/which-oil-and-gas-facilities-in-the-gulf-have-been-attacked\">energy facilities<\/a> in the east of Saudi Arabia have been repeatedly targeted, as well as the capital, Riyadh, where the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/3\/3\/us-embassy-in-saudi-capital-riyadh-hit-by-drones-fire-reported-ministry\">US embassy<\/a> was hit by two drones earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, oil loadings at the Red Sea port of\u00a0Yanbu\u00a0were disrupted after a drone fell on the nearby Aramco-Exxon refinery, SAMREF.<\/p>\n<p>The port is the only export outlet for Saudi Arabia after Iran effectively blocked tanker traffic leaving the Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s statement came after Saudi <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/3\/19\/saudi-fm-warns-iran-that-patience-in-gulf-not-unlimited-amid-attacks\">Foreign Minister<\/a> Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said earlier in the week that trust in Iran had been \u201cshattered\u201d, asserting his country\u2019s right to defend itself.<\/p>\n<p>The foreign minister said that Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states had \u201cvery significant capacities and capabilities that they could bring to bear should they choose to do so\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia\u2019s relations with Iran have historically been rocky, but the two countries embarked on a Beijing-brokered rapprochement three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, the Foreign Ministry said that continued Iranian attacks would lead to further escalation and have \u201csignificant consequences\u201d for current and future relations.<\/p>\n<p>The statement followed Qatar\u2019s decision on Wednesday to declare the Iranian Embassy\u2019s military and security
