Agents briefly followed the man and called for backup. When uniformed Secret Service officers arrived, the suspect attempted to flee and opened fire. Agents shot back, wounding the man, who was taken to hospital. A weapon was recovered from the suspect.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"830\" data-end=\"1014\">A child was shot during the exchange, but his injuries were not life-threatening. It is not clear who shot the minor, but Quinn said investigators believe he was struck by the suspect.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1016\" data-end=\"1101\">Quinn said the Secret Service will \u201cfind out\u201d whether the gunman was targeting Trump.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1287\">The Secret Service also said there was no evidence that the suspect intended to target US Vice President JD Vance\u2019s motorcade, which passed through the area shortly before the incident.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"recent-attempt-on-trump-s-life\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"122\">Recent attempt on Trump\u2019s life<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1325\" data-end=\"1537\">On April 25, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/4\/26\/trump-evacuated-from-the-white-house-correspondents-dinner\">evacuated<\/a> from the correspondents\u2019 dinner after a gunman allegedly attempted to assassinate the president. The incident is considered the third assassination attempt against Trump since 2024.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1539\" data-end=\"1867\">The suspect, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, is in custody and has been charged with attempting to kill Trump, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and illegally transporting guns and ammunition across state lines.
