Israel\u2019s air force says it has targeted more than 1,100 sites in Lebanon since the so-called truce began.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanon\u2019s Ministry of Public Health reports that at least 380 people have been killed during the truce, bringing the total death toll since Israel\u2019s invasion and bombardment of Lebanon began on March 2 to more than 2,800.<\/p>\n<p>Israel showed no signs of slowing its military operations on Tuesday, issuing a series of new forced displacement orders and threats of further attacks. In statements on X, the Israeli military\u2019s Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee told residents to flee from the town of Sohmor in the Bekaa valley, and the towns of Arzoun, Tayr Debba, Bazouriyeh and al-Haush in southern Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli military also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/liveblog\/2026\/5\/12\/iran-war-live-trump-slams-iranian-proposal-as-ceasefire-hangs-by-a-thread\">blew up a water pumping station<\/a> in the town of Deir Mimas, which overlooks the Litani River, and demolished homes in Bint Jbeil, NNA reported.<\/p>\n<p>Al Jazeera\u2019s Obaida Hitto, reporting from Tyre in southern Lebanon, said there has been a \u201csignificant escalation\u201d in attacks in the last week.\u00a0However, many residents who previously returned to their towns after earlier displacement say they are unwilling to leave again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people are concerned that this is going to continue. But they are not going to be leaving the south,\u201d Hitto said.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"us-lebanese-officials-to-meet-again\">US, Lebanese officials to meet again<\/h2>\n<p>Lebanese leaders <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/5\/7\/us-pushing-israeli-de-escalation-ahead-of-new-talks-lebanese-official\">have appealed to the US<\/a> to press Israel to halt attacks before a third meeting between Lebanese and Israeli officials set to take place in Washington, DC <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/5\/9\/israeli-attacks-across-lebanon-kill-at-least-19\">later this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said he asked US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa to \u201cexert pressure on Israel to stop the ongoing attacks and violations, in order to consolidate the ceasefire\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming Israel-Lebanon meeting in Washington will \u201cessentially determine the next phase of this ceasefire, which is really hanging on in name only\u201d, said Al Jazeera\u2019s Rory Challands from Beirut, Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>He said the meeting was not expected to lead to any imminent face-to-face sit-down between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which the US and Israel have pushed for. \u201cThis is off the table for the moment,\u201d said Challands. \u201cThe Lebanese are firmly opposed to that at this stage in the conflict, at least until the Israelis have pulled out of southern Lebanon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem on Tuesday said the group\u2019s weapons were not part of the upcoming negotiations, vowing never to \u201cabandon the battlefield\u201d despite the Lebanese government\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/3\/2\/lebanese-pm-nawaf-salam-announces-ban-on-hezbollah-military-activities\">push to disarm the group<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody outside Lebanon has anything to do with the weapons, the resistance\u2026 this is an internal Lebanese matter and not part of negotiations with the enemy,\u201d Qassem said in a written statement addressed to the group\u2019s fighters and broadcast on its Al-Manar television channel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not surrender and we will continue to defend Lebanon and its people, however long it takes and however great the sacrifices,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The deadly air attack comes just days before Israeli and Lebanese officials are due to meet in Washington.
