Carano retired after losing that fight with a record of 7-1.<\/p>\n<p>Rousey, 39, arguably became the most famous athlete in women\u2019s combat sports history as she won six consecutive UFC fights, with many ending in less than a minute.<\/p>\n<p>But she retired with a record of 12-2 after back-to-back defeats to Holly Holm in November 2015 and Amanda Nunes in December 2016.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-has-rousey-said-before-the-fight\">What has Rousey said before the fight?<\/h2>\n<p>When Rousey lost her final two UFC fights and realised she needed to prioritise her health, including her increasing susceptibility to concussions, she left the spotlight of the cage for acting and professional wrestling, followed by marriage and two children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to allow my body to rest and heal,\u201d Rousey told The Associated Press news agency.<\/p>\n<p>Rousey also told ABC Sport Daily that she had lost her love for MMA towards the end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s what I was missing towards the end of my career \u2026 I just didn\u2019t want to be there any more,\u201d she said in a recent interview.<\/p>\n<p>But now she says she\u2019s happy to be fighting again on her terms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my chance to really change all of those prior associations and make this thing mine again,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, on social media a few weeks ago, Rousey criticised the UFC\u2019s upcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/sports\/2025\/10\/6\/trump-says-ufc-fight-at-white-house-to-be-staged-on-his-80th-birthday\">White House event<\/a> as an \u201coligarch shmooze fest\u201d while promoting her own fight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know I\u2019m biased, but I can\u2019t remember ever seeing a single card more stacked than this in MMA history,\u201d she wrote on Instagram about Saturday\u2019s Netflix card. \u201cThis is what happens when fighters come together and bet on themselves \u2013 change is coming, we are not expendable \u2013 WE ARE THIS BUSINESS!!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a fight card for EVERYONE, not some oligarch shmooze fest (*cough*\u00a0#whitehousecard\u00a0*cough!), tickets start at just $68\u00a0@intuitdome!!!\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4572508\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4572508\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/afp_6a05abfd2711-1778756605.jpg?w=770&#038;resize=770%2C513&#038;quality=80\" alt=\"VENICE, CALIFORNIA - MAY 13: Ronda Rousey participates in training during the Open Workout for Netflix's Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano at Venice Beach on May 13, 2026 in Venice, California. No, I had a whole life that opened the doors to those movie opportunities, and it was me being a fighter, a genuine fighter who broke a lot of barriers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything I\u2019ve gone through leading to this point already feels like a victory, but I\u2019m not fighting Ronda just to say I fought Ronda Rousey.
