If it receives final approval, a process that could take weeks, it would trigger an election within 90 days. Polls are currently set to be held before the end of the legislative session on October 27.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is under mounting pressure from ultra-Orthodox parties, while his fractious right-wing coalition appears to be facing possible collapse.<\/p>\n<p>Ultra-Orthodox parties accuse Netanyahu of failing to deliver on his promise to pass legislation that would exempt young men of their community from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/4\/11\/why-are-there-growing-calls-for-ultra-orthodox-jews-to-enlist-in-the-army\">mandatory military service<\/a>. Sensing an opportunity amid the turmoil, several opposition parties announced earlier this month that they intended to introduce their own bills to dissolve the Knesset.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, coalition chairman Ofir Katz said: \u201cThis coalition has completed its days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the only opposition that caused the coalition to grow. In this term, we passed nine budgets and 520 laws,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The bill now heads to the committee, where an election date is agreed upon, before going back to the Knesset for final \u2060approval.<\/p>\n<p>The vote comes at a pivotal time for Netanyahu, \u2060Israel\u2019s longest-serving prime minister, who leads the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/3\/30\/israel-passes-discriminatory-death-penalty-bill-targeting-palestinians\">most right-wing government in the country\u2019s history<\/a>. Israel has been at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/4\/4\/israel-strike-that-killed-106-people-in-gaza-apparent-war-crime-probe\">war on multiple fronts<\/a> in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran, while many Israelis blame Netanyahu for the security failure that enabled the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
