He has been convicted multiple times by Israeli courts for \u201cincitement to racism\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Poland has also barred Ben-Gvir, announcing a five-year ban on Thursday. \u201cIn the democratic world we do not abuse and gloat over people in custody,\u201d Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski posted.<\/p>\n<p>The French ban comes weeks after the European Union imposed sanctions on Israeli settlers and pro-settlement groups.<\/p>\n<p>Ben-Gvir is among several Israeli leaders and organisations that have been temporarily or outright banned by countries in the West, or sanctioned under international law since Israel\u2019s genocide in Gaza began in October 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a list of other Israeli figures and entities that have been barred, penalised or sanctioned in recent years:<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"benjamin-netanyahu-and-yoav-gallant\">Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant<\/h2>\n<p>The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November 2024 for the Israeli prime minister and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for their conduct in Israel\u2019s war on Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>There are \u201creasonable grounds\u201d to believe that Gallant and Netanyahu \u201cintentionally and knowingly deprived the civilian population in Gaza of objects indispensable to their survival, including food, water, medicine and medical supplies, as well as fuel and electricity\u201d, it said.<\/p>\n<p>Effectively, the defendants are now internationally wanted suspects and ICC member states are under legal obligation to arrest them.<\/p>\n<p>Days after the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7,2023, Gallant announced a \u201ccomplete siege\u201d on Gaza, saying \u201cwe are fighting against human animals\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>More than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza. REUTERS\/Amir Cohen\" fetchpriority=\"low\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3340173\">Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant [File: Amir Cohen\/Reuters]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"bezalel-smotrich\">Bezalel Smotrich<\/h2>\n<p>The far-right Finance Minister, together with Ben-Gvir, was banned from entering Slovenia last July.<\/p>\n<p>The Slovenian government accused the pair of inciting \u201cextreme violence and serious violations of the human rights of Palestinians\u201d with \u201ctheir genocidal statements\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Last June, Britain, Norway, Australia, New Zealand and Canada imposed sanctions on the two Israeli ministers, accusing them of inciting violence against Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/6\/21\/is-israels-smotrich-fulfilling-his-dream-of-annexing-the-west-bank\">Smotrich,<\/a> who lives in a settlement in the occupied West Bank, has supported the expansion of settlements and has called for the territory\u2019s annexation.<\/p>\n<p>Settlements are illegal under international law. In July 2024, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel\u2019s continued presence in occupied Palestinian territory was unlawful, a decision Israel has ignored.<\/p>\n<p>Smotrich has previously called for \u201ctotal annihilation\u201d in Gaza, and said that a Palestinian town in the West Bank should be \u201cwiped out\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4493805\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4493805\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/ap_6989d7913b305-1770641297-1776239722.jpg?w=770&#038;resize=770%2C513&#038;quality=80\" alt=\"Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich holds a map.\" fetchpriority=\"low\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4493805\">Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich displays the E1 settlement project to reporters in the occupied West Bank [File: Ohad Zwigenberg\/AP Photo]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"israeli-settlers-and-settlement-groups\">Israeli settlers and settlement groups<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this month, the European Union agreed to impose sanctions on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2023\/11\/6\/who-are-israeli-settlers-and-why-do-they-live-on-palestinian-lands\">Israeli settlers<\/a> and Hamas leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The sanctions target three Israeli settlers and four settler organisations but their identities have not been publicly disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was high time we move from deadlock to delivery,\u201d EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said in a social media post following the agreement. \u201cExtremisms and violence carry consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Excluding occupied East Jerusalem, more than 500,000 Israelis live in the occupied West Bank in settlements, among three million Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, the expansion of Israeli settlements reached its highest level since at least 2017, when the United Nations began tracking data.<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of Israel\u2019s genocidal war on Gaza, the West Bank has been gripped by almost daily violence involving Israeli troops and settlers. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/liveblog\/2026\/5\/11\/iran-war-live-trump-slams-tehrans-reply-israel-kills-2-medics-in-lebanon\">More than 1,000 Palestinians<\/a> have been killed in the territory, according to the UN.
