That, in turn, has raised questions about whether the April 8 ceasefire has unravelled.<\/p>\n<p>Trump told Fox News that Iran is \u201ctapping the US along\u201d with talks that have not led to a long-term agreement.<\/p>\n<p>He renewed his threat to bomb the country\u2019s power plants and bridges, despite concerns that attacking civilian infrastructure could constitute a war crime.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the threat during Wednesday\u2019s Oval Office event, Trump said he would not confirm whether he planned to go ahead with the attacks. \u201cBut I could do that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged a swift conclusion to the ongoing US-Iran negotiations. \u201cThey should sign their deal,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116725476229257491\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> on his Truth Social platform that Iran has been \u201ccompletely defeated\u201d, reiterating his claims of victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/liveblog\/2026\/6\/10\/iran-war-live-tehran-vows-response-as-us-strikes-over-downed-helicopter\">pay the price<\/a>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian officials have stressed that they will not sign an agreement that does not recognise their country\u2019s \u201crights\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran has also suggested that it is not afraid to return to war.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Trump\u2019s assertion that Iran is militarily defeated, Tehran has been able to respond to US attacks and maintain its blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, which has sent energy prices soaring.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Haji Babaei, deputy speaker of the Iranian parliament, said diplomacy will work only when the \u201cdemands of the Iranian nation\u201d are met.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerica will lose in the economic and military war,\u201d Babaei was quoted as saying by the state news agency, IRNA.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also said that Iran \u201cmust move\u201d beyond the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/9\/anything-but-normal-uncertainty-as-iranians-try-to-get-by-amid-us-war\">current state<\/a> of \u201cno war, no peace\u201d in the region, but he stressed that his country \u201cwill not yield\u201d in the face of threats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWar is certainly not in the country\u2019s interest, but if they seek to violate our dignity, our land and our territory, we will not surrender,\u201d he said, according to IRNA.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Trump\u2019s hardening tone on Iran, he continues to face criticism at home for his handling of the war.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is your daily reminder that the President has lost total control of the Iran War and thus has lost interest,\u201d Democratic Senator Chris Murphy wrote on the social media platform X on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe now only obsesses over his ballroom and schemes to profit off the presidency while gas and grocery prices soar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Critics have noted that the US president has to contend with a busy domestic agenda that could dissuade him from fully resuming the war with Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The US is cohosting the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/8\/us-confirms-denying-entry-to-somali-referee-set-to-take-part-in-world-cup\">FIFA World Cup<\/a> over the next five weeks.
