{"id":7263,"date":"2026-06-14T16:35:34","date_gmt":"2026-06-14T16:35:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pronews.in\/index.php\/2026\/06\/14\/unacceptable-london-protesters-slam-illegal-israeli-settlement-land-sale\/"},"modified":"2026-06-14T16:35:34","modified_gmt":"2026-06-14T16:35:34","slug":"unacceptable-london-protesters-slam-illegal-israeli-settlement-land-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pronews.in\/index.php\/2026\/06\/14\/unacceptable-london-protesters-slam-illegal-israeli-settlement-land-sale\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Unacceptable\u2019: London protesters slam illegal Israeli settlement land sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><em>Demonstrators denounce event promoting Israeli settlement land, property sales as a violation of international law.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators have gathered in the British capital to condemn <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/12\/london-mayor-slams-event-touting-illegal-israeli-settlement-land-sales\">an event promoting the sale of<\/a> land and properties in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrators outside the so-called \u201cGreat Israeli Real Estate Event\u201d in London on Sunday shouted slogans and held posters reading, \u201cStop Israel\u2019s illegal sale of stolen Palestinian land\u201d and \u201cThou shalt not steal\u201d.<\/p>\n<section>\n<h2>Recommended Stories <\/h2>\n<p><span>list of 3 items<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>list 1 of 3<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/10\/sanctions-on-settlers-not-enough-target-israeli-govt-say-campaigners\">Sanctions on settlers not enough: Target Israeli gov\u2019t, say campaigners<\/a><\/li>\n<li><span>list 2 of 3<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/11\/israeli-government-mulling-huge-funding-to-expand-west-bank-settlement-ngo\">Israeli government mulling huge funding to expand West Bank settlement: NGO<\/a><\/li>\n<li><span>list 3 of 3<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/12\/london-mayor-slams-event-touting-illegal-israeli-settlement-land-sales\">London mayor slams event touting illegal Israeli settlement land sales<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>end of list<\/span><\/section>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re here today protesting as Palestinians living in London, [to say] that we refuse the selling of our lands, our homelands,\u201d Jeanine Hourani, an organiser with the Palestinian Youth Movement, told Al Jazeera at the rally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that what is happening today is illegal under international law,\u201d Hourani said.<\/p>\n<p>The atmosphere was tense as dozens of police officers were deployed to the demonstration, where a large group of pro-Israel counter-protesters \u2013 some of whom shouted, \u201cPalestine doesn\u2019t exist\u201d \u2013 rallied in support of the event.<\/p>\n<p>The Metropolitan Police said <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/metpoliceuk\/status\/2066159115190108607\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">15 people were arrested<\/a> during the demonstrations \u201cfor a range of offences, including public order matters\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The event, organised by the My Home in Israel real estate agency, drew widespread opposition from human rights activists and politicians across the United Kingdom who urged the British government to stop it happening.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/11\/israeli-government-mulling-huge-funding-to-expand-west-bank-settlement-ngo\">Israeli settlements<\/a> in the occupied Palestinian territory are illegal under international law, and the International Court of Justice <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/7\/19\/world-court-says-israels-settlement-policies-breach-international-law\">ruled in 2024<\/a> that Israel\u2019s occupation was unlawful and should end.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 100 British legislators, including members of Prime Minister Keir Starmer\u2019s Labour Party, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AndyMcDonaldMP\/status\/2065436511043002655\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed a letter<\/a> on Friday urging the government to \u201cuphold its obligations under international law\u201d and ensure the event \u201cpromoting illegal activities does not proceed\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Layla Moran, the first British MP of Palestinian descent and one of the letter\u2019s signatories, described the sales as \u201cunacceptable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a stain on the British public and the international rule of law that this event has been allowed to go ahead today,\u201d she told Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact is it should have never gone ahead; the Metropolitan Police should have stopped it and if the laws don\u2019t exist to do that, then we need to move swiftly to put an end to this kind of transaction happening on British soil,\u201d Moran said.<\/p>\n<p>The activist group, Jewish Anti-Zionist Action (JAZA), also denounced the event held in a London synagogue as \u201cunconscionable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat a synagogue would openly engage in enabling the further colonisation of Palestine by giving the event religious and cultural credence is unconscionable,\u201d the group said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The UK government did not immediately respond to Al Jazeera\u2019s request for comment on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to media outlets earlier this week, a government spokesperson said \u201cIsraeli settlements are illegal under international law and harm prospects for a two-state solution\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExpansion in the West Bank is wrong.
