Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>The statement on Monday came after both the US and Iran <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/15\/iran-us-agree-tentative-deal-to-end-war-your-questions-answered\">announced<\/a> plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending Hormuz open, the US naval blockade on Iranian ports lifted, and fighting halted on all fronts.<\/p>\n<p>More entrenched issues, including the future of Iran\u2019s nuclear programme, its support for proxies in the region, the unfreezing of Iranian assets, and the lifting of sanctions were expected to be addressed during a 60-day negotiation period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShips are starting to move, many loaded up with Oil, out of the Strait of Hormuz,\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are going along the Southern \u2018Highway,\u2019 which is totally safe, secure, and pristine,\u201d Trump added, referring to a shipping route in the strait that traverses Oman\u2019s territorial waters.<\/p>\n<p>The route has been a concern due to maritime mines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are other areas of travel, also!!!\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a US military advisory released on Monday said the ongoing US naval blockade of Iran\u2019s ports would remain in effect until the signing ceremony planned for Friday, according to Reuters news agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA military blockade \u2060of Iranian \u2060ports remains in effect restricting all traffic \u2060inbound and outbound \u2060from these \u2060ports,\u201d the advisory said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not attempt to \u200ccross until explicit direction is \u200cgiven.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"long-return-to-normal-operations\">Long return to normal operations<\/h2>\n<p>While international oil markets rebounded following the positive signals towards a deal, if the strait were to be fully reopened, it is expected to take months for operations to return to normal.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, shipping and maritime security forces told Reuters news agency that mine-sweeping operations could continue for 40 to 50 days before many insurance and shipping companies would be confident enough to permit passage through the arterial waterway.<\/p>\n<p>Some companies, however, have indicated they will start transiting sooner.<\/p>\n<p>The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has said about 500 ships are waiting to pass through the strait, with about 20,000 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/economy\/2026\/6\/15\/seafarers-advocates-welcome-us-iran-deal-after-months-long-limbo-in-gulf\">stranded<\/a> crew.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has said he will discuss de-mining efforts during the Group of Seven (G7) Summit starting in France on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has recorded 46 US and Iranian attacks on international shipping lines throughout the conflict.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"unanswered-questions\">Unanswered questions<\/h2>\n<p>Official details of the plan to open the strait have not been released, nor has the thornier question of its future administration.<\/p>\n<p>The waterway had been open prior to the US and Israel launching attacks on Iran on February 28.<\/p>\n<p>Experts have warned that the conflict has reinforced the strait\u2019s significance as a key point of leverage for Iran, enabling it to effectively close the route or levy tolls.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, US Vice President JD Vance told CNBC that he expected the strait to be \u201copened in a toll-free way for the long term\u201d. He added the issue would be discussed in \u201ctechnical negotiations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, indicated on Monday that \u201cfees\u201d will be charged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to pave the way for a secure passage in this waterway,\u201d he said. \u201cWe need a certain period of time to discuss with the other sides this important matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a separate interview on ABC News, Vance said that the MoU had already been signed \u201cdigitally\u201d on Sunday, suggesting that the as-yet-unreleased terms were not subject to change before Friday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US military advisory says naval blockade of Iran ports to remain until US-Iran initial deal signing on Friday.
