Lavrynovych has been given a seven-year jail sentence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou agreed to carry out this mindless piece of arson for money. You were not a man of great principle, and you were easily bought,\u201d the judge added.<\/p>\n<p>Romanian national Carpiuc, who was born in Ukraine, supported and encouraged Lavrynovych and was handed a two-year jail sentence.<\/p>\n<p>The men carried out overnight attacks in May 2025 targeting London houses linked to Starmer \u2013 including his former residence where his sister-in-law and her family were living \u2013 and a Toyota car he formerly owned.<\/p>\n<p>They were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/15\/uk-court-convicts-two-over-pm-targeting-plot-run-by-mysterious-russian\">convicted by a jury on Monday<\/a> of conspiring to damage property by fire following a trial at London\u2019s Old Bailey court.<\/p>\n<p>Lavrynovych, who the prosecution said lit all three fires, was convicted on two additional counts of arson reckless of danger to life.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said the perpetrators did not express any political motivation for carrying out the crimes, and their motive was financial.<\/p>\n<p>EL Money contacted Lavrynovych in both Russian and Ukrainian, and prosecutors did not state who or what was believed to be behind the account. Lavrynovych told the court he did not know who he was targeting, while the court was shown messages \u2060in which El Money told Lavrynovych he needed to flee the UK after carrying out the attacks on the home \u201cof a very high-ranking individual in Britain\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC reported that El Money is \u201ca young Russian diplomat\u201d who is 23 and \u201cthe son of a senior official.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The UK police said there was no specific evidence to \u2060link the two men to Russia, while the Russian embassy in London rejected accusations of any \u2060Russian involvement, saying Moscow posed no threat to the United Kingdom\u2019s security.<\/p>\n<p>Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said after the verdict that the mastermind wanted to \u201ccreate fear\u201d although there was no evidence El Money was a \u201cstate threat\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the pair were convicted, Starmer welcomed the verdicts.
