It focuses on the creation and management of a chair at Madrid\u2019s Complutense University that was co-directed by Gomez, as well as the alleged use of public resources and personal connections to advance private interests.<\/p>\n<p>Sanchez has dismissed the allegations against his wife as an attempt by the right wing to undermine his government. Sanchez\u2019s Socialist Party has said Gomez is innocent and subject to a years-long campaign of political persecution<\/p>\n<p>No date has yet been set for the politically explosive trial.<\/p>\n<p>The case is one of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/5\/27\/spain-police-enter-pm-sanchezs-socialist-party-hq-in-corruption-probe\">several corruption investigations<\/a> involving Sanchez\u2019s allies that are approaching trial or already before the courts, increasing pressure on the prime minister.<\/p>\n<p>Several close allies, including the Socialist Party\u2019s number three \u2060and Sanchez\u2019s former transport minister, are under investigation in cases involving alleged \u2060kickbacks linked to public works, oil \u2060and gas contracts, and the procurement of masks during the pandemic. They deny wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, Spain\u2019s High Court said it was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/5\/19\/spains-former-pm-zapatero-faces-corruption-probe\">investigating former \u200cPrime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero<\/a> over allegations he led a network that profited from lobbying public authorities \u200con \u200cbehalf of third parties, including airline Plus Ultra.
