A diet taking Yemen by storm has doctors worried<\/a><\/li>\n<li><span>list 2 of 3<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/7\/4\/saudi-led-coalition-pledges-unprecedented-force-against-houthi-threats\">Saudi-led coalition pledges \u2018unprecedented\u2019 force against Houthi threats<\/a><\/li>\n<li><span>list 3 of 3<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/features\/2026\/7\/4\/brain-drain-leaves-yemens-health-sector-in-tatters-and-millions-helpless\">Brain drain leaves Yemen\u2019s health sector in tatters and millions helpless<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>end of list<\/span><\/section>\n<p>In a post on X, al-Qudaimi said the troops were killed \u201cdefending their land and dignity\u201d during the battle.<\/p>\n<p>Medical sources told AFP that hospitals in the area on the Red Sea coast received 16 dead from pro-government forces and 22 wounded.<\/p>\n<p>An officer with the government-aligned forces in Jabal Dubas told AFP that the Houthis briefly seized pro-government positions after launching the attack late on Friday, before government-aligned forces mounted a counterattack and retook the sites by dawn on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was the deadliest Houthi attack in years,\u201d the officer said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media.<\/p>\n<p>He said Houthi fighters used snipers, which caused most of the casualties, before firing drones and mortars at the positions.<\/p>\n<p>Another military official told AFP that pro-government forces had repelled the Houthi attack in \u201cclashes lasting several hours\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Houthis also suffered casualties without specifying the number killed or wounded.<\/p>\n<p>The Houthis have fought Yemen\u2019s internationally recognised government since 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The group controls the capital, Sanaa, and much of northern Yemen, including the port city of Hodeidah on the country\u2019s western Red Sea coast.
