At least five separatist uprisings have been recorded since Pakistani independence in 1947.<\/p>\n<p>Islamabad has repeatedly accused Afghanistan of serving as a base for separatist groups seeking to overthrow Pakistan\u2019s central government, which Kabul has denied.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Pakistan\u2019s military said it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/7\/1\/pakistan-says-it-intercepted-four-drones-fired-from-afghanistan\">intercepted four drones<\/a> launched by the Afghan Taliban into Balochistan, the latest in a string of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/29\/why-pakistans-afghan-air-strikes-arent-stopping-armed-attacks\">tit-for-tat<\/a>\u00a0strikes since October 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The strikes came after Pakistani security forces <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/29\/pakistan-says-its-security-forces-killed-29-fighters-along-afghan-border\">killed 29 fighters<\/a> along the Afghan border in late June, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/27\/explosion-and-gunfire-reported-in-pakistans-karachi\">following an assault<\/a> on a Karachi paramilitary compound for which the Pakistan Taliban <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/7\/1\/after-afghanistan-fires-drones-into-pakistan-whats-next\">claimed responsibility<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Afghan Taliban government disputed that those targeted were fighters, however, and said the Pakistani operation killed at least 36 civilians and wounded 163 others.<\/p>\n<p>Islamabad has also accused neighbour and rival India of backing the BLA without evidence.
