Every nation should be allowed to dream of participating in the World Cup. You can see that the quality of the \u200c\u200cteams is extremely high \u2013 and it\u2019s getting higher and higher all over the world. If you don\u2019t give smaller countries a chance to participate in the World Cup, they\u2019ll lack the incentive to keep improving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The World Cup finals had 32 teams from 1998 through 2022. The current 2026 edition is the first with 48 teams.<\/p>\n<p>Four teams \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/sports\/2026\/7\/12\/which-teams-are-in-the-world-cup-semifinals-and-whats-the-match-schedule\">Argentina, England, France and Spain<\/a> \u2013 remain \u2060\u2060in the tournament. Two semifinal matches and the final are all that remain from the initial 104-match schedule in Canada, Mexico and across the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Infantino said he considers the 48-team field to be a \u201chuge success\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery team played \u2060\u2060at a high level. Teams from every continent scored goals and earned at least one point,\u201d he said. \u201cNine out \u2060\u2060of 10 African teams reached the knockout stage. \u2060\u2060At the last World Cup, there were only five teams from Africa. That just goes to show how important it is to include all teams \u2013 to give them this opportunity to participate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2030 \u200c\u200ctournament will be a multi-continent effort.<\/p>\n<p>The first three matches are scheduled to be played in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay \u2013 one per country \u2013 with the remaining \u200c\u200cgames \u200c\u200cin Morocco, Portugal and Spain.
