More than 800 rescuers have gone to the site, reported CCTV.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4780753\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4780753\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/afp_6a5a4fa249be-1784303522.jpg?w=770&#038;resize=770%2C513&#038;quality=80\" alt=\"Rescue workers search for survivors at the site of a landslide in Pengshui County in Chongqing, China on July 17, 2026.\" fetchpriority=\"low\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4780753\">Rescue workers search for survivors at the site of a landslide in Pengshui county in Chongqing, China, July 17 [AFP]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Authorities said they sent more than 8,000 disaster relief items to Chongqing, including tents, folding beds and family emergency kits.<\/p>\n<p>Pengshui county is located in the southeast part of Chongqing, bordering the provinces of Hubei and Guizhou.<\/p>\n<p>The area where the landslide happened is known for \u201cunpredictable\u201d steep terrain, a local official told a news conference, adding that dangerous rocks remain along the sides of the cliff.<\/p>\n<p>The government has allocated 50 million yuan ($7.36m) in natural disaster relief funds to support the rescue and relief operations and to provide assistance to affected residents, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management said.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese President Xi Jinping called for officials to organise the search and rescue operation in a scientific manner and to quickly probe the cause of the disaster, according to comments carried by Xinhua.<\/p>\n<p>China suffered <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/7\/7\/at-least-people-buried-following-landslide-in-china\">another landslide earlier this month<\/a> in the mountainous region of China\u2019s western province of Gansu, which killed 21 people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Landslide has buried homes and forced more than 1,100 people to evacuate.
