Ukraine\u2019s military also said it had struck a Russian oil \u2060refinery in the Yaroslavl region.<\/p>\n<p>The latest attacks came as domestic tensions continued to flare in Ukraine over the controversial ousting by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/7\/16\/hundreds-protest-in-kyiv-over-zelenskyys-dismissal-of-defence-minister\"> of Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov<\/a> as part of a cabinet reshuffle.<\/p>\n<p>The exit of 35-year-old Fedorov, who sought to modernise the ministry and has been partly credited \u200cwith <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/7\/17\/ukraine-cuts-off-crimea-from-russia-plunging-it-into-an-energy-crisis\">Ukraine\u2019s recent military successes<\/a>, has exposed a bitter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/7\/17\/has-ukraines-zelenskyy-created-a-rival-by-sacking-his-defence-minister\">divide within Ukraine\u2019s military establishment<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After being forced to resign, Fedorov harshly criticised military chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, with whom he has been in dispute with, and questioned whether Ukraine could defeat Russia with him in charge of the army.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"listen-to-the-people\">\u2018Listen to the people\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Protesters rallied for \u2060a second day outside Zelenskyy\u2019s office in central Kyiv on Friday, demanding he reappoint \u2060Fedorov.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-Fedorov supporters also rallied in the cities of Kharkiv, Ternopil, Mykolaiv, Chernivtsi and Lutsk, reported Ukraine\u2019s Ukrinform news agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI truly believe and hope that the authorities \u2060will, after all, listen to the people \u2013 that it will heed the people\u2019s demands,\u201d Valeriia Balenko, a 29-year-old protester who rallied outside Zelenskyy\u2019s office, was quoted by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause this is what the \u2060people want, for the sake of our soldiers\u2019 lives and for the \u2060sake of the civilians who live under air attacks every day,\u201d said Balenko.<\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy on Thursday named Yevgeniy Khmara \u2013 head of Ukraine\u2019s SBU security service \u2013 as acting defence minister, saying he has \u201cunprecedented experience with technological combat operations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy has since tapped former \u200cInterior Minister Ihor Klymenko to chair Ukraine\u2019s defence and security council.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Russian attacks reportedly kill two Ukrainians aboard foreign vessel in Mykolaiv; two more killed in Kherson and Odesa.
