US officials said the two sides had agreed on the next steps for creating \u201cpilot zones\u201d in southern Lebanon, where Israeli troops would begin withdrawing, and the Lebanese army would take over security.<\/p>\n<p>The pilot zones are part of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/features\/2026\/6\/27\/israel-lebanon-deal-ties-ceasefire-to-hezbollah-disarmament-will-it-work\">framework agreement reached in June<\/a> that is meant to gradually end Israel\u2019s military presence in southern Lebanon. But the agreement sets no deadline for Israeli forces to leave. Instead, withdrawals are tied to Hezbollah and other armed groups disarming, a condition Hezbollah has rejected.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"israeli-attacks-continue\">Israeli attacks continue<\/h2>\n<p>Even as negotiations continue, Israeli forces have remained inside what they call a 10km (six-mile) \u201csecurity zone\u201d along the border and have continued carrying out air strikes.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanese state media reported new Israeli attacks on two towns on the edge of the zone in the Tyre and Nabatieh regions on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2060Israeli \u2060military said in a statement that it struck a Hezbollah cell \u2060near Tebnit in southern \u2060Lebanon after soldiers identified a Hezbollah drone \u200cin the area, adding that \u2060the activity \u2060violated ceasefire understandings. There was no immediate comment \u200cfrom Hezbollah.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli officials have said their troops will stay in the security zone for as long as Hezbollah remains armed.<\/p>\n<p>Hezbollah has rejected both the negotiations and the framework agreement, refusing calls to disarm. The group says only continued pressure from its ally Iran can bring about an end to the war and Israel\u2019s withdrawal from Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>The latest war grew out of months of cross-border fighting between Israel and Hezbollah that followed the start of Israel\u2019s genocide in Gaza in October 2023. The conflict escalated into a full-scale war in March after the US and Israel attacked Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Although a ceasefire is now in place, Israeli forces have remained inside parts of southern Lebanon and <a href=\"https:\/\/aje.aj-harbinger.com\/news\/2026\/7\/10\/israeli-drones-strike-lebanon-despite-us-brokered-framework-deal\">continue to launch periodic strikes<\/a> as negotiations over a longer-term settlement continue.<\/p>\n<p>More than 4,000 Lebanese have been killed and more than a million displaced by Israel\u2019s war on Lebanon since March, according to Lebanon\u2019s Ministry of Public Health.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lebanese and US presidents are expected to discuss the ceasefire, southern Lebanon, and Israel\u2019s withdrawal.
