
{"id":8041,"date":"2026-07-23T20:37:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T20:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pronews.in\/index.php\/2026\/07\/23\/indian-activist-wangchuk-ends-26-day-hunger-strike-over-exam-paper-leaks\/"},"modified":"2026-07-23T20:37:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T20:37:14","slug":"indian-activist-wangchuk-ends-26-day-hunger-strike-over-exam-paper-leaks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pronews.in\/index.php\/2026\/07\/23\/indian-activist-wangchuk-ends-26-day-hunger-strike-over-exam-paper-leaks\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian activist Wangchuk ends 26-day hunger strike over exam paper leaks"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><span>BREAKING, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2060Sonam \u2060Wangchuk says he ended his fast to demand education minister\u2019s resignation \u2018in view of possible violence in the \u2060country\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>Indian activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended his 26-day hunger strike demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over a series of examination paper leaks.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X late on Thursday night, Wangchuk, 59, said he ended his fast after \u201ca long negotiation on various conditions and in view of possible violence in the country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said he would describe the conditions in a separate video.<\/p>\n<p>Wangchuk\u2019s announcement came shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a video address on X, saying he will bring a tougher law to check paper leaks.<\/p>\n<p>Modi said the government was working on measures to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/7\/23\/indias-modi-promises-fast-track-courts-for-exam-fraud-fuelling-protests\">fast-track court proceedings<\/a> against those involved in the leaks and that the issue would be discussed by the cabinet on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>In his video address, Modi called the leaks a \u201cmatter of great pain\u201d for hundreds of thousands of students, without mentioning Pradhan.<\/p>\n<p>The activist had been on a hunger strike since June 28 in solidarity with India\u2019s youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) that is demanding Pradhan\u2019s resignation over medical college entrance test paper leaks, which forced millions to retake the exam.<\/p>\n<p>Wangchuk\u2019s announcement came as thousands of pro-CJP protesters continue to protest at New Delhi\u2019s Jantar Mantar area and across the country in one of the biggest challenges for Modi since his 2024 re-election for a third term.<\/p>\n<p>The CJP, which has millions of followers on social media, on Thursday said it would press ahead with its fight \u201cto fix the system and set accountability\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis country has seen many announcements of fast-track courts, but this is not the solution to the systemic issues in the education system,\u201d CJP spokesman Ashutosh Ranka said on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cModi should fix the system, remove Dharmendra Pradhan and bring accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BREAKING, \u2060Sonam \u2060Wangchuk says he ended his fast to demand education minister\u2019s resignation \u2018in view of possible violence in the \u2060country\u2019.
