As a result, this proposal will not proceed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Friday, \u2060Infantino\u2019s senior adviser <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/sports\/2026\/7\/31\/infantinos-senior-adviser-cordeiro-resigns-over-fifa-world-cup-plan\">Carlos Cordeiro resigned<\/a> with \u2060immediate effect, calling the plan \u201ca bad deal for football\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA\u2019s Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lamour said staff were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/sports\/2026\/7\/31\/fifas-lamour-says-staff-deceived-over-infantinos-world-cup-sell-off-plan\">\u201cdeceived\u201d by Infantino<\/a>, describing the proposal as a \u201cproject of one person\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>British Prime \u200cMinister Andy Burnham, meanwhile, told reporters on Friday that Infantino was \u201cthe wrong man to lead the organisation\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BREAKING, FIFA and its President Gianni Infantino faced fierce backlash from across football to plans to sell stake in World Cup.
