Air raid alerts for Kyiv remained in place for more than an hour.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said one warehouse building had been destroyed near the city centre and rescue teams had pulled two people from the ruins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere may still be people under the rubble,\u201d he wrote on Telegram. \u201cSearch and rescue operations are proceeding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an earlier post on Telegram, Klitschko said that air defence units had been in action to repel the assault.<\/p>\n<p>In the surrounding Kyiv region, another person was killed and 21 other people injured, local authorities said on Telegram.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine has in recent months urged its allies for more supplies of US-made Patriot missile interceptors to protect its airspace against Russian ballistic attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said a lack of ballistic missile interceptors \u201conly encourages Russia to launch such attacks that take human lives\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/7\/28\/ukraines-zelenskyy-hails-good-meeting-with-trump-at-white-house\">Zelenskyy met US President<\/a>\u00a0Donald Trump last Tuesday, partly to lobby Washington for licences to produce Patriots domestically.<\/p>\n<p>United Nations human rights monitors have voiced concern about the rising numbers of civilian casualties, which have reached their highest levels since Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of its neighbour in February 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest attack comes after at least 27 people were killed in both Russia and Ukraine earlier this week.
