The future of mobility \u201cbelongs to India,\u201d Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while inaugurating the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 on Friday at Bharat Mandapam. Considered as the largest mobility-focused event, the five-day expo, spanning three venues\u2014Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi in Delhi and India Expo Center and Mart in Greater Noida\u2014will run from January 17-22, showcasing cutting-edge developments and innovations in the mobility sector.<\/p>\n

Themed \u201cBeyond Boundaries: Co-creating Future Automotive Value Chain,\u201d the expo aims to unite the global mobility value chain under one roof, fostering collaboration, sustainability, and technological advancement. It features over 100 new launches, nine concurrent shows, and 20 conferences, making it a pivotal event for the automotive and mobility industries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe future of mobility belongs to India. With the rising aspirations of our people, coupled with innovation and technology, we are poised to lead the global mobility revolution,\u201d Prime Minister Modi said, adding that the transformational impact of the \u2018Make in India\u2019 initiative has driven innovation and bolstered the country\u2019s automotive manufacturing capabilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes have resulted in sales worth \u20b92.25 lakh crore and the creation of over 1.5 lakh direct jobs in the sector,\u201d Modi said. He reassured stakeholders that the government remains committed to fostering growth through policies encouraging investment, innovation, and sustainability.<\/p>\n

Automotive sector\u2019s robust growth<\/b><\/p>\n

The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 highlights the automotive sector\u2019s robust growth in India, which saw record sales of 2.5 crore vehicles in 2024, an 11.6% increase over the previous year.<\/p>\n

The surge, led by the two-wheeler segment, positions India as the world\u2019s third-largest car market. The event is coordinated by the Engineering Export Promotion Council of India, with support from industry bodies and government initiatives.<\/p>\n

PM Modi highlighted that India has attracted $36 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the mobility sector over the past four years, a figure expected to multiply as India\u2019s role in the global automotive industry expands.<\/p>\n

He noted a remarkable increase in electric vehicle (EV) sales, which have grown 640 times over the past decade, reaching 16.8 lakh units in 2024. He projected an eightfold rise in EV adoption by the end of the decade.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister reiterated India\u2019s focus on sustainable mobility, emphasizing the development of green technologies, hydrogen fuel, biofuels, and EV infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Middle class and youth fueling automotive growth<\/b><\/p>\n

India\u2019s expanding middle class is a significant driver of automotive growth, with 25 crore citizens having risen out of poverty in the past decade, creating a large neo-middle class investing in first-time vehicle ownership.<\/p>\n

Besides, India\u2019s growth story is fueled by its young population, rapid urbanization, and infrastructure development. With affordable vehicles and government support, the automotive industry is transforming rapidly, contributing to India\u2019s ambition of becoming a developed economy by 2047.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs India ascends to become one of the world\u2019s top three economies, the mobility sector will play a crucial role in our journey. Our focus is on creating a system that supports both economy and ecology, reducing fossil fuel imports and fostering innovation,\u201d Prime Minister Modi said.<\/p>\n

The expo also included discussions on advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, sustainable fuels, and global partnerships. Modi urged stakeholders to take advantage of government incentives and global demand for clean mobility solutions.<\/p>\n
