Singapore expressed its support for the development of India\u2019s Northeastern region as its High Commissioner to India Simon Wong met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati late on Monday (February 24, 2025) evening.<\/p>\n The High Commissioner said Singapore was ready to support the Chief Minister’s vision for Assam and the greater Northeast region.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cTeam Singapore was honored to meet Assam’s hyper-energtic Hon\u2019ble CM @himantabiswa close to midnight yesterday. Singapore stands ready to support his vision for Assam and greater North East region,\u201d High Commissioner Wong said on social media platform X.<\/p>\n Chief Minister Sarma, on his part, expressed the hope that India-Singapore ties would be taken to the next level in the coming years.<\/p>\n \u201cMet my good friend and the High Commissioner of Singapore H.E Simon Wong a while back.<\/p>\n I express my gratitude to The President of Singapore, H.E @Tharman_S for sending in a lovely picture of our recent meeting. Look forward to taking our ties to the next level,\u201d the Assam Chief Minister said on X after the meeting.<\/p>\n The meeting took place on the eve of Advantage Assam 2.0, an event showcasing Assam as a gateway to Northeast India and Southeast Asia offering immense opportunities to global investors and ensuring seamless access to global markets.<\/p>\n The \u2018Advantage Assam 2.0 – Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025\u2019 is being held in Guwahati on February 25-26, 2025. This event marks the largest investment promotion and facilitation initiative by the Government of Assam, highlighting the state\u2019s geostrategic advantages and its potential as a major investment destination.<\/p>\n High Commissioners and Ambassadors from nearly 45 nations, who accompanied External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to the UNESCO-listed Kaziranga National Park on Monday, are also attending the summit, providing it with a global perspective. The first edition of Advantage Assam was held in February 2018.<\/p>\n In recent years, India has taken steps to increase its footprint in the Indo-Pacific region, with a specific focus on Southeast Asia.\u00a0<\/p>\n India renamed its Look East Policy as Act East Policy (AEP) in 2014, in an attempt to provide sharper focus to its engagement with other countries in the region.<\/p>\n The objective of the ‘Act East Policy\u2019 is to promote economic cooperation, cultural ties and develop strategic relationships with countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
